Life

I know this topic may be hard to write but I will write about it as my last post for the english holiday assignment.

Well, what is the definition of life? Is it how a person lives his life? Is it a person's destiny and fate? If you check the dictionaries, there are a lot of definitions as to what life is. Examples from it are 'the period between birth and death; the experience or state of being alive', 'way of living or a particular part of someone's life', 'everything which is alive' and 'energy or enthusiasm'. Facing so many definitions, which do you think is the real one of life?

For me, I believe that the real definition of life is the time you when you are alive and living in this world. Without life, do you think you can stay alive in this world? The answer is no and that is why, lives are precious and we should cherish it. Having a life is the most precious thing that is given to us by the Gods of our beliefs or ever simpler, by our parents. However, there are people in this world who do not at all treasure lives. There are people who gave their lives up in order to end other people lives. There are people who end their lives just because of a minor setback or due to depression. There are also people ending other people's lives just because they hate them. These people are those that do not treasure lives at all and treat it as rubbish.

Fortunately, not all people are like them. There are some people, who would lend a helping hand to anyone in need of help. Instead of ending their lives other a small matter, they would treasure their own life and even help others who are in need.
Well, these people are those that treasures lives. I myself am someone who treasure lives very much. I would assure myself that no matter what happens to me, I would never ever commit suicide nor would I cause other people to lose their lives.

Lives are special and precious and everybody should learn to cherish them. Not everybody would have the same life. Even though it may be similar, nobody would have the same life. That is because everybody is different in their own ways. As in fingerprints, nobody would ever have the same fingerprints. As for appearances, there may be someone who looks exactly as you but the character and habits would surely be different. Even for clones, the looks may be same but the
character and habits would surely be different somehow.

Overall, people should treasure life and not throw them away senselessly. Hope I wrote well for this post as I just wrote whatever that comes to mind. :D

Describe a memorable overseas trip you had.

Well, Youth Camp 2006 was the only overseas trip I had ever since I am born and as my original blogspot have a post about the camp, I can use it as a reference as I write this assignment. So here I go.

The Youth Camp 2006 was the first overseas camp I had and so it would surely be memorable to me. Well, it is my first overseas camp I had and it is also the first camp ever did I see so much people attending the camp together. The bus ride was quite good I guess, had a really long nap on the bus while it made its way to Port Dickson(Malaysia). After about four to five hours of bus ride, we finally arrived at Port Dickson Methodist Centre which is where we are going to have our camp there. After that, we immediately had lunch and the food was much better then any of those I had in my previous camps. Next, the singing session. Everybody sang the songs seriously and I really enjoyed the singing of the songs. For me, there are some songs which I personally like myself. They are 'Calvary, in Step With Christ(YC 2006 song)', 'Thank You, Lord (for the trials)', 'You Are My All In All', 'A Purple Robe', and 'Therefore Being Justified By Faith'. Well, those are the songs and the one I like the most is 'Calvary, in Step With Christ(YC 2006 song)', the song is easy to sing and the song, was composed by those at the church and so, it can't be found in any other albums or songbooks and it is also because of that, I am waiting to get my hands on that song.

The next thing I enjoyed about the camp is the food. I am sure my friend Dominic feels the same way as for the last few days of the camp, he and I are the ones who is the first to eat and the last few to leave. In addition, the both of us usually have about at least three servings of food during every meals and that is also why I think that I gained a lot of fats in the camp but it is worth it for the delicious food in the camp.
Not forgetting about the games, my games group in the camp was 'Spirit' and we have games like the '7th HEAVEN' and the 'Xl Camp CHAMPIONSHIP'. Scores can be obtained from this games and the score accumulated in these games would be added together with the scores of the little performance we are going to put up just before we have our campfire to decide which group would be first, second or third. After adding all our scores, we were unfortunately placed last of all the teams. Victor's team, Love, was placed second while Dominic's team, Purity, was placed third. No doubt that there was disappointment in us but I really had fun in the games so I myself think that it was worthwhile.

Finally, the campfire was one of the things I enjoyed the most. Even though it did rained before we even start our camp fire, it did not extinguish the campfire that was burning in our hearts. We still looked forward to the campfire and hoped it would go smoothly. Well, the torch, made a wonderful performance down the rooftop of the centre to the centre of the logs. Seeing the campfire successfully lighted up, all of us clapped and we started by singing some songs we sang before in the camp. Next, campers were asked out to give reflections on the camp and to get their candle lighted up.(The candle was given to all of the campers before the campfire.) Dominic and I decided to go out but was rejected cause there wasn't enough time. After the campfire, we went to share the goodies which we got and have some juice to celebrate the hard work that we put in to make the camp fun. After all the celebrations, Dominic and I made our way to the campfire site and admired the star named Orion. Yes, Orion as in the orion house in our school.

Overall, there was only one word I can use to describe the camp and that is Superb and in all, I made some good friends in the camp. This is the memorable overseas trip I had. A detailed write-up of the camp is in my original blogspot so if you wanted to know more about it, go and read about it.

A day in the life of a teacher

Firstly, I have not been a teacher before but I thought about it before. So, I am going to post my imagination into the post.

It was a sunny day, the best day for me to start my first day of work as a teacher at Yishun Primary School, the school which I graduated from And now, I thought to myself "I am back to impart the knowledge I learned here unto the students here." Well, that is the job of a teacher, right?

When I walked into the school, I saw the students walking in orderly together with their friends after waving good-byes to their parents and relatives. No one was running in the carpark and canteen area. Everybody was so quiet while waiting for the bell to ring for their morning assembly. After the bell rang and just before the morning assembly is over, the principal called out to the new teachers to come to the front stage. I, together with the other teachers, walked up to the front stage and introduced ourselves upon the principal's request. After introduction, we went back to our seats after the roaring applause the students gave to welcome us.

After the morning assembly is over, students started going back to their class in a neat and orderly manner. As a newcomer, I was tasked to teach only one class from primary one maths. I agreed immediately at that moment as being able to teach children had always been one of the things that can make me happy. Just then, a thought came to my mind. "Are the children going to be naughty? If so, how can I deal with them?" But I quickly suppressed that thought keeping the mindset that the children are well-behaved. I made my way up the stairs into the primary one class that I am going to teach. It was when I got into the class when I was a little shocked. The students are all chatting with their friends and only a handful automatically stood up when they saw me walking in.
Soon, after about two to three minutes, the whole class noticed that I am standing quietly in front and started standing up and greeted me together. I too greeted them and asked them to sit down. After that, I did some introduction on me myself and some rules. Next, I continued with my maths lesson and to my surprise, all of the students listened attentively and even some asked me questions. Not soon after, the lesson ended and I made my way back to my office table, carrying some of the worksheets done in class earlier. As I sat down and marked all of the worksheets, I am so pleased with how the class is progressing. It seems to me in their worksheets that they do know how to do the topic and knowing that, I felt pleased. As the school ends, I made my way home thinking, "Having students like that really makes my day worthful no matter how tired I am."

Well that is my imagination of me being a teacher...sounds like a fantasy huh? :D

Ways to pamper myself.

Hmm....Let's see what I can write about this topic....
As for me, I would sleep in for as long as I can. After I woke up, I would try cooking instant noodles for myself if nobody is going to be cooking. In the process of cooking noodles, I would always try mixing funny ingredients such as cheese or anything I can get my hands on in the fridge of mine.(As I said before in the earlier posts, I like mixing funny ingredients :P) Then, I would always enjoy the sense of satisfaction while eating the noodles and I don't know why but I would always feel very full after that. Next, I would listen to some of the musics I like personally and try to relax both my mind and my heart. If that is still not enough, I would try playing internet games to destress or rather Ps2. If that is still not enough, I may try doing some blogging instead as it is the only thing that can get my mind up and going and mostly, I would be so immersed in the topic that I forgot what time it is and it would always take at least two to three hours. Then, when it was bath time, I would immerse myself under the hot shower. How good would that be....
Well, that's all :P

Television: could you be without it? Discuss.

In this world where technology is improving rapidly, where everywhere you go, technology would be around you, it is very rare for people not to have a television at home. As for me, I can't live without being able to watch television programs for the most, two weeks. Especially with the enchanting television programs that keeps coming on and on makes you somewhat addicted to the television screen to find out what would happen in the next episode. Some drama shows do have this ability to keep you addicted. I believe not much people can live through their lives without watching television for at least two to three days. Reason being that as technology is making life easier and more enjoyable for people, they tend to rely on technology more and more as technology keeps improving. I myself am no difference. I too, find myself rely too much on technology like air-conditioners, television, computers, Mp3s and many more. It is like, I am becoming a slave of technology as I would switch on my television and computer automatically at least once a day. And if there is no television during the holiday period, I would surely be bored to death as just having a computer and the thought of you using it for the whole holiday period with nothing else to do would just simply make you bored.
In conclusion, I can't live my life properly without a television. I may survive for a few weeks but if you want it to be forever, it is impossible as I am already too dependent on technology.

"Secondary school students should not work part-time." What are your views?

To me, secondary school students working part time is alright with me. In fact, I myself would love to go out and work part-time during the school holidays as it is the period when I am most free and that using this time to go out and work would give you some working experiences as well as give you the chance to earn some money to contribute to the household or for you to buy the things you want. In fact, some parents would tell their children to go and work part-time whenever the school holidays came because most children would just spend their time away at home on games and television. Their parents not wanting to see them wasting their precious time away, would ask them to go work part-time for not the money but for the working experience they can gain while they are working. Well, it also depends on what kind of part-time job you are working on. However, working part-time does not mean that students can neglect their studies and put the blame on working just because they did not finish their homework on time or dropped in terms of results. Working part-time may be important but if compared to your studies, it is considered nothing. Reason is that you can't possibly work part-time for the rest of your life, right? If your studies are affected just because you are working part-time, it is not worth it. And it is best not to work part-time when you are having lessons because if you can't cope with the stress from both your work and studies, not only would your studies be affected, your work performance and even your health may be affected.
And so, secondary school students working part-time is acceptable, but they should put their studies in the first place and part-time job second and they should never try to work part-time when the school started having lessons.

Disuss the advantages and disadvantages of studying overseas

You always see Families migrating to other countries as parents wanted to pursue higher studying standards for their children. Singapore is also the same. Some Families in other countries moved to Singapore while there are also some families in Singapore moving to other countries with the mindset that their children would have better education in other countries than in their own countries. This can be observed from the number of people migrating nowadays. They migrate for mostly two reasons, first is the environment and secondly is the education standard and the person who would most benefit from this actions would be the children themselves. However, there are advantages and disadvantages of studying overseas.

Firstly, let's talk about advantages. Students studying in other countries such as USA would normally be more independent that those in Singapore. The reason is because when you are in a different environment and you have not much friends around you, what can you do other than trying to be independent yourself. That is mostly what happens when you are alone, facing a problem with no one able to help you solve or solve it together with you. For most of the parents, they want to see their children being independent other than be dependant on others. The second advantage is the variety of subjects. Although Singapore have good education standards, it does not consist some of the subjects some students want to learn but when other countries offers the subject, the students would automatically try to go for that subject if they are really interested and by doing that, they would be able to gain more knowledge and put the knowledge to good use. Example of that is introducing that particular subject to students so they can pursue that knowledge in Singapore rather than go overseas.

As for the disadvantages, students who study overseas may forget about the teachings of their grandparents or parents about being filial and other teachings after being exposed to the outside world of foreign countries. They may be led astray by the harmful effects brought by the different kinds of people they meet out there and try to imitate what the people there do just because most of them are doing it. As for people who go to foreign countries to pursue a degree certificate assuming that they can find a job easily back in their own country, they are wrong. Though workers nowadays are not required to continuously upgrade themselves to keep up with the society, they did that but due to what reason? The reason is in order not to get sacked and becoming unemployed. And due to the strong competition, people with degree nowadays too suffer from unemployment just as those who did not have a lot of education.

Therefore, before migrating to other countries for studies, be sure to consider the advantages and disadvantages of it.
